The new Prentice 490 skidder, the first model in the new Prentice skidder line. |
Blount, Inc. announces the development of the new Prentice skidder line with the introduction of the first model, the Prentice 490. According to Dennis Eagan, President of Blount's Industrial & Power Equipment Group, this is "an important step for Blount and it's dealer organization, as we can now provide a full range of products and services for use around the world." The Prentice 490 is a single arch model, to meet the demands of a large segment of the skidder market. "The 490 is designed as a solid, dependable skidding workhorse, and with the Prentice name, the 490 carries all the attributes of the Prentice brand", says Dick Hemmelgarn, Vice President Sales and Marketing. The tough, dependable, productive Prentice 490 Skidder comes with a powerful 6BTA-173HP Cummins power plant that drives a torque converter transmission with six forward and three reverse gears. The torque converter transmission delivers smooth power to the wheels allowing for efficient maneuvering in tight spots. It also reduces wheel spin in soft ground conditions minimizing ground disturbances and stresses transmitted into the driveline. Another benefit is easier operation in tough terrain because the Prentice 490 does not require constant shifting through multiple gears. Power from the transmission is transformed into pulling power through the rugged outboard planetary axles. The dependable drive train is engineered to consistently perform in tough conditions because the outboard planetary design lowers stress in the axles and the wheel-end planetary housings are supported with dual roller bearings. The Prentice 490 comes with a rugged delimbing grate and a choice of bunching or sorting head grapples. The bunching head has a maximum opening of 110" and a tip-to-tip capacity of 11.2 square feet. The sorting head has a maximum opening of 100" and tip-to-tip capacity of 9 square feet. Operators of the Prentice 490 will appreciate the comfortable, no-nonsense design of the operator cab. The air suspension seat and the visual command of the work area produced through the large cab windows together with the simple gauge panel design allow long hours of continuous operation in comfort. In addition routine maintenance is simplified with easy access provided by the standard tilting cab and large, removable engine doors, swing down oil cooler and centralized greasing "The Prentice 490 is a rugged, dependable and productive machine," says Hemmelgarn. "And it comes with the industry-leading support behind the Prentice name." For a product brochure on the Prentice 490, call us at (919) 269-2443 or email us at sales@blount-fied.com. |
