Building Log Loaders For Over Fifty Years - One Of The
Reasons Why We're
"THE LOGGER'S BRAND"
PRENTICE
The origin for PRENTICE loaders dates back to 1945 to a small village in
northern Wisconsin - Prentice, population 700. A local entrepreneur, Leo
Heikkinen, founded a small machine shop that gave birth to the first hydraulic
log lifting winches. Mr. Heikkinen's philosophy was, "build it stronger
than it needs to be".
This philosophy was the corner stone for the most successful knuckleboom
log loader product line in history - PRENTICE.
Today, PRENTICE has the most complete product line in the industry, with
self-loaders, truck, trailer, crawler and stationary mount machines. With
over 50,000 knuckleboom loaders to its credit, PRENTICE is clearly the market
leader.
HYDRO-AX
The HYDRO-AX line originated in 1973 as a rubber-tired tractor with brush
mower attachment, developed by a small group of innovators in Owatonna,
Minnesota. They saw a demand in the emerging timber harvesting industry
for a hydrostatic driven tractor with a cutting attachment for timber harvesting.
Thus the birth of the HYDRO-AX Feller-Buncher.
The HYDRO-AX product line today is the largest in the industry - five models,
including a three-wheel tractor, with a variety of HYDRO-AX shear and saw
attachments.
The PRENTICE Log Loader Championship
In 1972, an idea for an exciting trade show attaction for loggers and their
families was conceived. It had to be entertaining, exciting and fun - yet
requiring certain skills that only the best loggers obtained.
Over twenty-five years later, the PRENTICE Log Loader Championship remains
just the same - an exciting, entertaining, fun attaction at every outdoor
exhitibition that PRENTICE attends. Loggers line up to register for the
opportunity to play "checkers" on the two large checkerboards,
while they get to try out the newest model of PRENTICE loader on the market.
And there's cash money and trophies for the winners.
